PFAS Remediation Solutions
PFAS has become one of the top drinking water contaminant issues of the 2010s decade, surpassing other continuing concerns such as Hex Chrom; Perchlorate; Nitrate, Pesticide, MTBE (Methyl tert-butylether gasoline additive), Arsenic, PCBs, and endocrine disrupters. The rapidly growing number of scientific citations, and articles in the popular press, indicate alarm and concern across the United States, Canada, Australia, and the European Union.
Les PFAS sont les substances perfluoroalkylées et polyfluoroalkylées. These widely spread, toxic compounds, are estimated to be found in up
to 10% of the drinking water supplies in the USA, and that exposure grows with each new submission of the EPA’s UCMR list (issued at least every 5 years), and each improvement in testing techniques.
The key emerging areas of treatment can be divided into 2
categories: Legacy sites and ongoing use sites.
legacy sites:
- Remediation of firefighting sites
- Remediation of military sites
- Remediation of industrial discharge site
ongoing use cases:
- Cleanup of municipal wastewater treatment water, prior discharge (recycling back into the environment)
- Cleanup of industrial wastewater prior to being discharged into a receiving body
- Treatment of the newer classes of PFASs that have not yet had their safety determined
- Treatment of drinking water that has been contaminated with PFAS
Fortunately, Veolia has fine-tuned our very effective removal technologies for treatment of waters containing PFAS. Three
of the most common are shown below.
- Carbon adsorption
- Specialty anion ion exchange resin
- Reverse osmosis or nanofiltration
Veolia selects from our vast range of rental/lease equipment technologies, and removal media, to tailor a solution specific to your local need. If later, you would like to purchase capital equipment, we can handle that as well. Flow rates as low as 10 gpm up to 5000 gpm and higher are available.
